MEXICO CITY — Toyota Motor Corp. will examine producing SUVs at a plant it’s constructing in Mexico’s central state of Guanajuato, along with the Tacoma pickup, Toyota of Mexico spokesman Luis Lozano advised Reuters on Friday.
Toyota plans to accumulate a 5 % stake in smaller Japanese rival Mazda Motor Corp. as a part of an alliance that may see the 2 construct a $1.6 billion U.S. meeting plant and work collectively on electrical autos.
“We will focus solely on pickups at the start and are learning the potential for SUVs sooner or later,” Lozano stated.
Toyota has been including gentle truck capability in North America in response to buyer demand and rising gross sales of pickups, crossovers and SUVs.
Toyota initially deliberate to provide Corollas at the $1 billion plant being inbuilt Guanajuato. However Corolla output, and a new Mazda crossover, will now be shifted to the deliberate U.S. meeting plant.
